地球科学の研究では,地球を構成する最小の単位「鉱物」を詳細に研究することから始まります.そのため産出希な鉱物の物理化学的性質やすでに知られている鉱物でも希に特別な性質を有することがあります.このような鉱物を対象とし紹介する研究をしています.特に,ヒスイ輝石岩(下左の写真)に伴う鉱物,例えばストロンチウムを含む鉱物(stronalcite)の研究,等軸晶系でも光学異常を示す鉱物、紫外線で携行する鉱物(下右の写真:chabazite-Ca)の性質調べる,更に岡山県布賀鉱山に産する多数のホウ酸塩鉱物の物理化学的性質などを調べています.
